Tech Support scammers use WannaCry in tricks

Scammers have started using the WannaCry ransomware attacks to lure their victims, Action Fraud UK reports. They come purporting to be from Microsoft, then make you pay for free removal software.

One person has already reported having lost £320 to the scammers. The window, that could not be closed, said the victim had been affected by WannaCry.

The scammers will ask you to call a number. When you do, they guide you through the process of enabling remote access. Once you give them access and pay the fee, they remove their pop up.

To protect yourself, always remember no one from Microsoft will contact you first. They have trouble even catching up with reports that come in. One more thing, do not call numbers from pop-up messages.
