THE GSMA has awarded Econet Wireless in partnership with Comviva the title “Provider of the world’s best mobile solution”. The recognition comes in recognition of EcoCash, the leading mobile wallet in Zimbabwe.
Econet introduced EcoCash envisioning a cashless society. The service has a wide network of payment points, and integration with existing providers only makes it even more appealing. This has seen the service maintaining its market lead, in spite of the other players trying to catch up. State owned NetOne even played the exclusivity card with ZETDC.
EcoCash has a wide mobile money service portfolio including P2P transfers, international remittance, bill payments, NFC-based merchant payments, MasterCard Companion Card, Savings, Loans, insurance and Savings Club. These are the features that keep drawing more customers. Other products like EcoSave also help keep the numbers of active customers high, as you are active for as long as you have something in your account.
Econet Wireless Zimbabwe offers Ecocash in partnership with Mahindra Comviva. The latter’s mobiquity® Money platform powers EcoCash. This partnership links the platform to the rest of the international financial system. Locally in Zimbabwe, the accounts are held by Steward Bank, an Econet subsidiary.
