A voice revenue battle: Econet and NetOne battle, Telecel left out.

Econet and NetOne recently introduced new voice promotions meant to increase customer value. Well, to try and resuscitate falling voice revenues rather. Econet has introduce a 7x promo, and NetOne has tweaked its dollar a day. Telecel, on the other hand, has remained dormant as usual.

free aitime, voice text and data from econet in 7x promo

Econet has introduced a 7X promotion, which of benefits of up to 7 times the amount spent by a customer. The promotion has to be registered for by dialling *143#. The benefits are either voice or combo depending on how one spends the airtime. For airtime spend in calls, the bonus is given as voice credit. If otherwise spend through browsing, the benefits are split across data, SMS and Voice. The validity of the data is up to Midnight, which attracted jabs from NetOne.

The 7x promotion comes with its own set of complex fine print. For example, different customers are given different targets. For the majority the daily target is set at 50c, and for new SIM cards the target is a dollar. The bonus airtime is only valid for on-net transactions, thus one can only call Econet numbers. If one spends above the daily target, the bonus applies only to the target amount. As an example, if the target was $1 and one spends $1.35 the promotion applies to only $1. The bonus is then spread out as 20SMSs, 20MB data and 20Voice minutes.

Dollar a day bundle allocations for a dollar

NetOne has made significant changes to the dollar a day promotion. This is the largest change that has occurred since the promotion was introduce. Instead of automatic benefits after a top-up, now one has to purchase bundles, much like Econet. Now advertised as 26x promotion, a direct jab at Econet’s 7x promotion, the promotion seems like it has not been finalised yet. Initially, they offered a 50 DAD bundle, but the offer was quickly removed.

NetOne is all out promoting its new bundles. This includes pointing out how much more value is offered compared to Econet’s offering. The validity of the NetOne DAD bundles is set up to 5am, which they advertise as more time with your money.

In all this rush for customers, Telecel has not joined. Now that the ownership struggles are over, we expected it to be now in the competition. Telecel was the first to introduce voice bundles ages ago, and hasn’t tweaked them in a while. It still has Mega bonus though, offering customers 100{c509fa0689117bbb203bb121d1f17d6cabc65c372518e5121e451cedb6b210c3} bonus upon recharge. Your move, Telecel.
